Poissant Earns Exemption into MJT National Championship

ST-BASILE-LE-GRAND, QC – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals, held a two-day tournament at Club de Golf Rive-Sud in St-Basile-le-Grand on August 20th and 21st, the second MJT stop in the province this summer.

16-year-old Jonathan Poissant of St-Michel fired 78-77 (155) to win the Boys 14-16 division title as well as the low overall score in the field as well as, earning an exemption into the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship at Nicklaus North Golf Club in Whistler, British Columbia, on August 28th and 29th. The field in the 9th annual national championship is by invitation only, and 72 players from across the country are scheduled to attend next week.

Runner-up to Poissant in his division was Patrick Duquette, 16, of Beloeil, who shot 79-82 (161). Marc Antoine Le Denn, 16, of Laval, took third place after carding rounds of 85-80 (165).

The Boys 17 and up division was won by Eric Fraser, 17, of Chambly, who posted scores of 83-80 (163). Guillaume Houle, 17, of St-Basile, came second (88-93=181) and Tyler Collett, 17, of Greenfield Park, finished third (92-91=183).

Lucas Greco, 12, of Montreal, shot a 164 total after back-to-back rounds of 82 to win the Boys 13 and under division by five strokes over Hugo Bernard, 12, of St-Basile-le-Grand (86-83=169). Third place went to Eric-James Boffey, 12, of Brossard (93-82=175).

The sole girl in the field was Alexandra Pelletier, 15, of Delson, who carded the low round for the field on day two, finishing with a 156 total score (81-75).

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Eric-James Boffey, Marc Antoine Le Denn, and Tyler Collett. The Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin Competition divisional winners were Gregory Benko of St-Bruno, and Louis-Philippe Bouchard of Boucherville.
