THREE WIN MAJOR EXEMPTIONS AT MJT’S CPGA ATLANTIC JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
SHUBENACADIE, NS – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run by Golf Professionals, held a major event endorsed by the Atlantic Professional Golfers’ Association at The Links at Penn Hills in Shubenacadie, NS, on August 1st and 2nd. The 36-hole tournament, the MJT-CPGA Atlantic Junior Championship, is part of a series of national events pioneered by the MJT in conjunction with the provincial CPGA zones.
The junior golfers taking part competed for three exemptions – one for the 8th annual, invitation-only MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship in Whistler, British Columbia, August 28th and 29th, and two for the North American Junior Championship in New Braunfels, Texas, this December.
Brian Affleck, 17, of Sutherlands River, NS, and Glen Lovat Golf Course, fired rounds of 74-76 (150) to take low overall and the MJT-CPGA Atlantic Junior Boys 17 and up champion title, securing the boys spot on Maple Leaf Team Canada to Texas. Runner-up to Affleck was Jin Ko, 17, of Halifax, NS, who posted scores of 78-77 (155), while third place in the division went to Scott Morton, 17, of New Glasgow, NS (82-78=160).
