DUPERE TAKES LOW OVERALL AT MJT’S RIVE-SUD EVENT
ST-BASILE-LE-GRAND, QC – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run by Golf Professionals, held a two-day tournament at Club de Golf Rive-Sud in St. Basile-le-Grand this past Monday and Tuesday, July 31st and August 1st.
Niko Dupere, 16, of St. Eustache and Deux Montagne Golf Club, fired rounds of 76-74 to win both the Boys 14-16 division and low overall score in the event. As a result, Dupere qualified for a spot on Maple Leaf Team Canada in the North American Junior Golf Championship at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas, this December. The rest of the eight-player team are qualifying at other MJT tournaments across the country.
Runner-up to Dupere in the Boys 14-16 division was Patrick Duquette, 15, of Beloeil and Club de Golf Beloeil, who shot 75-78 (153). Third place went to Jean Francois Godbout, 16, of St. Nicephore and Heriot Golf Club, who posted scores of 77-79 (156). Maxime Viens, 15, of St. Cesaire (76-84=160) and Pierre-Marc Biron, 14, of Varennes (76-85=161) rounded out the top five players in the division.
The Boys 13 and under division champion was 11-year-old Eric-James Boffey, of Brossard and Club de Golf de Brossard, who fired 81-84 (165) to edge Emmanuel Foucher, 13, of Laval Ouest, by one stroke. Foucher shot back-to-back rounds of 83 for a 166 total score. Third place in the division was claimed by Hugo Bernard, 11, of St. Basile-le-Grand, with scores of 92-86 (178).
