DEMEESTER FIRES 3-UNDER PAR TO TAKE MJT TEAM SPOT TO ARIZONA

BURLINGTON, ON – Kyle Demeester, 18, of Langton, blazed through two days of competition in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) stop at Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington, ON, to post an outstanding 3-under-par total score of 139, capturing both the Boys 17 and up division title and overall low honours for the field.

Demeester, a junior member at Delhi Golf Club, qualified for a spot on the four-player team in the CAN/USA Team matches at ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona, this December. The rest of the team are selected from other MJT qualifiers across Canada.

Demeester’s scores of 69-70 beat Colin Wright, 17, of Burlington by six strokes in his division. Wright shot 72-73 (145) on his home course to finish second, while Johnny Hall, 17, of Langton, placed third one stroke back (69-77=146).

In the Boys 14-16 division, Evan Olsthoorn, 16, of St. Catherines and St. Catherines Golf Club, fired 72-76 (148) to secure a three stroke victory over runner-up Oscar Rundsztuk, 16, of Milton, who shot 78-73= 151 on his home course. Third place finisher in the division was Jaimie Trotman, 16, of Port Elgin, who shot 73-79 (152).

Lucas Kim, 12, of Etobicoke and Centennial Golf Club, claimed the Boys 13 and under champion’s title after posting scores of 72-78 (150). Four strokes back was Gajan Sivabalasingham, 12, of Markham and the Mandarin Golf Club, who fired rounds of 78-76 (154). Christian Jeffery, 12, of Burlington, came in third spot with scores of 81-83 (164), and also scooped his division’s Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin (KP) competition. Lucas Kim won the division’s Mr. Lube Long Drive.

Kitchener boys Andrew Smith, 15, and Matt Burkhart, 17, won both the Mr. Lube Long Drive and the Sundog KP in the Boys 14-16 and Boys 17 and up divisions respectively.

The MJT continues its Ontario schedule on July 30th and 31st with the MJT-Ontario PGA Junior Championship at Forest City National Golf Club in London, a major order-of-merit point tournament and qualifier for the North American Junior Championship in New Braunfels, Texas, this December.
