HOT SHOTS AT KAMLOOPS STOP ON WESTERN CANADA JUNIOR GOLF TOUR

Kamloops, B.C. ? The Western Canada Junior Golf Tour?s latest tour stop at the Dunes Golf Club in Kamloops went ahead this past Wednesday-Thursday while helicopters swooped down gathering river water for battling the still-burning fire in the surrounding hills.

Junior golfers from all over BC and Alberta fought their own battles on the golf course in the WCJGT?s two-day tournament sponsored by Lindsay Kenney Barristers and Solicitors. In the Boys 13 and under division Dong Su from Richmond maintained his first round lead and secured his first win on the Tour with scores of 74-75 for a 149 total. Runner-up Riley Wheeldon from Comox shot 78-77 (155), followed by Kenneth Chmela (Penticton) and Michael Lawrence (Richmond) who tied for third place.

The competitive Boys 14-16 division saw a tie for first place between Richmond?s Ren Han (71-74=145) and Evan Kay (70-75=145) from St. Albert, Alberta. Han took the champion?s trophy based on having the best second day score. Josh Haywood from Pitt Meadows placed third (75-75=150).

The Boys 17 and up division witnessed a tight race which was won by Mission?s Jacob Hunt, his third win on the Tour this season. Hunt shot 75-72 (147) to eclipse first round leader Marco Redavid from Delta (74-75=149), who had to settle for a third place tie with Coquitlam?s Brook Scott (75-74=149). Runner-up to Hunt was Kyle Waddell from Westbank (76-72=148), whose second place finish followed up his win earlier in the week at the WCJGT?s Okanagan tournament.

Kyla Inaba from Kelowna, who won the Girls Division title, felt that just playing her own game and keeping calm was a big factor. ?The scores in my foursome were really tight during the whole round so it wasn't until my ball was in the 18th hole that I knew I had won,? said Inaba. ?This is my first win ever and it feels awesome. I still have butterflies in my stomach!?

Inaba shot rounds of 80-79 for a 159 total score. One stroke behind was Chelsey Lollar from Rosedale (80-80=160), followed by Laurenne Picard of White Rock in third place (79-82=161).

Winners of the Sundog Skills Competition were Alyssa Human (Kamloops), Carson Kallis (Red Deer, AB), Nick McKnight (North Vancouver) and Marco Redavid (Delta).

The non-profit Western Canada Junior Golf Tour is presented by Boston Pizza and hosts tournaments for boys and girls aged 10 to 23 in four age divisions. The Tour is building on its success by expanding into Ontario this summer under the Nationwide Junior Golf Tour banner.

The 2003 season winds up with the Boston Pizza Tour Championship at RedTail Landing in Edmonton, AB, September 13-14. For more information, please call 1-877-859-GOLF or visit www.wcjgt.com.
