BATTEN IS BEST IN MJT’S TURTLE CREEK SERIES AT WHISTLE BEAR
Cambridge, ON – Jordan Batten, 17, of Lakeshore, carded two good rounds of 71-74 for the best overall score in the recent Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) stop at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge.
Batten, who plays out of Beach Grove Golf Club, also won the Boys 17 and up division title in the two-day tournament. Tournament sponsor was golf apparel company, Turtle Creek Collection.
Josh Melnick, 18, of Leamington, placed second in the division four strokes back of Batten with rounds of 74-75 (149), and third place went to Eric Velanoff, 17, of Waterloo (76-75=151).
The Boys 14-16 division title was won by Braeden Cryderman, 15, of Huntsville, who edged runner-up Saber Kanwar, 16, of Hornby by one stroke. Cryderman, who is a junior member at Deerhurst Resort, shot 76-74 for a 150 total score.
Kanwar shot 79-72 (151) while third place was claimed by Michael Lawrence, 15, of Richmond, British Columbia (80-73=153).
In the Boys 13 and under division, Galt Elite Junior Brent McKenzie, 13, of Cambridge continued his winning streak on the MJT, firing rounds of 78-76 for a 154 total to take the champions’ trophy.
Second place in the division was a tie between Neil Khosla, 13, of Mississauga (86-80=166), and Brandon Pearce, 13, of Cambridge (82-84=166).
12-year-old Brittany Manning, of Cambridge, posted scores of 105-115 in the Girls division.
Division winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Khosla, Cryderman and Melnick. The Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition division winners were Emerson Bianchi of Woodbridge, Mark Willms of Kitchener, and Adam Manning of Cambridge.
The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, now in its 7th season, is presented by Boston Pizza and is Canada’s only major junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals and endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart.
