Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

The Road to College Golf, run exclusively by PGA Professionals

Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's Saskatchewan Series Tees Off May 6th

SASKATOON, SK - The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals and one of Canada's most successful junior golf programs, is boosting its program in Saskatchewan this year.

Under the leadership of Golf Professional Jeff Chambers, Saskatchewan's High Performance Golf Coach and MJT Tournament Director, the Tour will increase the number of multi-day tournaments to three, and each one is a major qualifier for exclusive international junior golf events.

The first stop in the series is the Finora Classic at Moon Lake Golf Club in Saskatoon on May 6th and 7th - a qualifier for a spot on Maple Leaf Team Canada to Mexico, where six boys and two girls will defend last year's win as the Canadian contingent in the 5th International Junior Golf Team Invitational in Cuernavaca.

On June 3rd and 4th the MJT stops at North Battleford Golf Club in North Battleford, for the ACT-UCT Junior Classic presented by Finora. Here players will compete for the chance to travel with non-playing Team Captain Jeff Chambers to Scotland this August, where Maple Leaf Team Canada plays in the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Team Matches.

The third and final stop is July 4th and 5th at The Willows Golf Club in Saskatoon - the 5th annual MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship presented by AirSource, which will qualify players for the North American Junior Championship at New Braunfels Golf Club in Texas this December. This major event is part of the national CPGA Zone Junior Championship Series initiated by the MJT in 2002, which now encompasses six provinces across Canada.

Participants will play in four divisions and receive great value for their entry fee, including two rounds of golf, a long drive and closest-to-the-pin competition, tee gift, pizza from national sponsor Boston Pizza, trophies and many prizes.

"All three events will also be ranked on the Saskatchewan Golf Association's Order of Merit," says Chambers, who encourages players of all abilities to enter and test their skills in a fun, competitive format. "It's really is a great platform to get out and enjoy the game, and you don't need a registered handicap to play."

Players who choose to join as Tour members are also eligible for other MJT benefits, including annual national awards such as the OGIO Ironman Awards which Dallas Mengel of Watrous, SK, received in both 2004 and 2005 for his commitment to the game.

Membership also means juniors can play in any of the MJT's 40-event national schedule, including tournaments in neighbouring provinces like Alberta, home to Mitchell Fox, the reigning Canadian Junior Boys Champion. Fox, who has played 43 rounds on the Tour since joining at age 14, will be off to the University of Las Vegas this fall on scholarship - another benefit of playing competitive golf for many MJT alumni.

Chambers adds, "With a special 50% rebate on membership fees for Saskatchewan players who play in three or more events this season, there's even greater value for parents who want their kids to be involved in an organized sport that can benefit them for the rest of their lives."

Registration is now underway - for more information please call 1-877-859-GOLF or visit the Tour's website at www.maplejt.com.
