JUNIOR GOLF TOUR DRAWS COMPETITORS FROM FOUR PROVINCES TO OKANAGAN GC

Kelowna, B.C. ? Junior golfers from Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon proved they were up to the challenge Monday and Tuesday when they stepped up to the tee at the Western Canada Junior Golf Tour?s Cattermole Timber Junior.

Winners of the event, staged at the spectacular Okanagan Golf Course, included Riley Wheeldon of Comox, Darren Wallace of Langley, Kyle Waddell of Westbank and Lindi Moryson of Langley.

?It feels great to win with such a good field at the tournament,? said Wallace, who posted impressive rounds of 70-74 (144) to take top spot in the Boys 14-16 division. ?My driving was one of my strengths, as well as my iron play.?

Wheeldon, who won the Boys 13-and-under division with sizzling rounds of 69-71 (140), said solid ball-striking was also key to his victory,

?I just tried to not make any mistakes that my opponents could capitalize on,? he said. ?I also kept playing aggressive when I was ahead.?

Waddell, who shot 77-74 for a 151 finish, said his putter gave him some trouble, but added that his driver was solid.

?I only missed two fairways,? he said. ?I started to get a little nervous on the home stretch, but coming into the final hole I felt I had a good chance at winning.?

Moryson, who posted rounds of 79-84 (163) to take the trophy among the Girls group, said she felt relaxed throughout the event.

?It feels really good,? she said following the tournament. ?Finally, hard work paid off.?

Other top finishers among Boys 13-and-under included Rhys Royer of Calgary, who shot 70-75 (145) to place second, and Richmond?s Dong Su, who shot 77-78 (155) to finish third.
