Local Junior Golfers Dominate at Medicine Hat
Tournament |
| |
The Western Canada Junior
Golf Tour, presented by Boston Pizza International, enjoyed two days
of spectacular sunny weather at the Medicine Hat Golf Course this past
Monday and Tuesday.
Local junior golfers enjoyed their home advantage in two of the Tour's
age divisions. Braden Graham of Medicine Hat won the Boys 17-18
Division with scores of 76-70 (146), his second round being the only
round under par in the tournament. Brandon Kuryvial of Cranford and
Kyle Andreas of Swift Current couldn't apply enough pressure on Graham
and battled for second and third place with scores of 153 and 154
respectively.
Jeremy Fischer, also of Medicine Hat, trumped his second place finish
in the WCJGT's Connaught tournament in late June with a first in the
Boys 15-16 Division, shooting scores of 75-80 (155) to edge out Mark
Robinson of Lethbridge (156).
In the Girls Division, Danielle Renner of Coaldale continued to pay
well, defeating Adreienne White (Red Deer) by a couple of shots on a
day where quick greens seemed to be the talk of all the players.
In the Boys 13-14 Division, Brian Wolsey of Lethbridge and Will Porter
of Cranbrook were tied for the overall lead coming down the 35th hole.
Wolsey then made birdie to Porter's bogie to take the lead for good.
Jace Barros of Edmonton continued his winning form with scores of
83-84 for a 5 shot victory over Glen Lengyel of Lethbridge. Barros has
played steadily on the tour this year and has notched up a few wins by
his name for this consistency.
Division winners each received exemptions into the WCJGT Invitational
at the PGA Tour's Air Canada Championship in Vancouver, August
31-September 1, 2002.
The next event is the Western Canada Alberta PGA Junior Championship
presented by MAZDA at Stony Plain GC, Stony Plain, August 2-3, 2002.
