Team Golf Ontario adds to lead at MJT National Team Challenge presented by Freedom 55 Financial

Niagara on the Lake, ON – (September 19, 2020) – Day two of the MJT National Team Challenge presented by Freedom 55 Financial at Royal Niagara Golf Club in Niagara, ON, saw lots of movement both on the team and individual sides of the competition. For the second day in a row, players enjoyed beautiful sunshine and perfect scoring conditions.  The event is setting up for a fantastic finish tomorrow.

Team Golf Ontario added one more shot to their day one lead firing a 305 on the second day for a two-day total of 604. Leading the charge on day two was once again 16-year old Ben MacLean, of Niagara Falls, ON. MacLean, after opening with a 70 yesterday followed that up today with a 75 (145). MacLean remains in first place individually after two days with a one-shot lead. Adding to Team Golf Ontario’s lead was 16-year old Justin Matthews, of Little Britain, ON, who fired a 76 (153). 16-year old Sarah Gallagher, of Burlington, ON, fired a 77 (152) on the second day to take the individual lead in the junior girls division. Following right behind was 19-year old Hailey McLaughlin, of Markham, ON, who also carded a 77 (154) to sit in a tie for second place.

Making a surge from behind to sit in second place in the team competition was Scott Cowx Certified Academy. Leading the charge was 17-year old Nolan Piazza, of Niagara Falls, ON, who fired the second-day low round of 71 (152). Adding to the team score from Scott Cowx Certified Academy were Burlington’s Michael Weber, 16, Richmond Hill’s Kavith Ranchagoda, 18, and Burlington’s Sam Hogan, 18, who fired 74, 74, and 78, respectively.
