ANDREAS WINS AGAIN IN CPGA-SK
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP |
| |
REGINA, SK: The Western
Canada Junior Golf Tour’s second stop in Saskatchewan was held at Tor
Hill and Murray Golf Courses in Regina this past weekend, where the
field endured November-like conditions and played nobly to a finish in
the Mazda Canada-sponsored Western Canada CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior
Championship.
The rain, wind and cold made low scoring difficult, and in the Boys
17-18 Division, Jeff Wittup of Calgary followed up his outstanding 73
on the first day with an 83, to finish second to Kyle Andreas of Swift
Current. Andreas shot an impressive 75 in his second round to eclipse
Wittup and capture his second win in a row on the WCJGT with the
lowest overall total score in the tournament.
In the Girls Division, Coaldale’s Dannielle Renner also continued her
winning ways on the Tour shooting 76-80 (156) – exceptional scoring in
those weather conditions. Renner is U.S. college-bound this August, as
she will be attending Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina on
a golf scholarship.
10-year-old Dallas Mengel from Watrous, SK, made a commendable debut
on the WCJGT with scores of 87-88 (175) and won the Boys 12 & Under
Division. Brian Wolsey of Lethbridge continued his fine play with a 13
stroke victory in the Boys 13-14 Division, and Taylor Willms from
Victoria, Vancouver Island, flew back home with all the loot after
winning the Boys 15-16 Division with a splendid 154 total score.
Tournament sponsor Mazda Canada presented scholarship monies to
Division winners Andreas, Renner, Wolsey and Willms. These four
champions together with Dallas Mengel all receive exemptions (and
travel assistance from Air Canada) to the WCJGT Invitational at the
PGA Tour’s Air Canada Championship at Northview Golf Club in Surrey,
British Columbia, August 31-September 1, 2002.
Winners of the Sundog Eyewear Skills Competition were Jeff Wittup
(Calgary, AB), Scott Stiles (Calgary, AB), Trent Colberg (Drumheller,
AB), Amanda Howe (Eston, SK) and Dallas Mengel (Watrous, SK).
The next WCJGT event in Alberta is at Connaught GC in Medicine Hat,
June 28-29. For more information please call the tour office at
