Junior Tour Stops At
Point Roberts G&CC In Washington |
| |
The Boston Pizza-presented
Western Canada Junior Golf Tour made its first foray across the border this
past weekend with a stop in Point Roberts, Washington, USA, for the
Cattermole Timber Junior Classic.
The new Point Roberts Golf and
Country Club course is fast becoming one of the lower mainland's top golf
destinations, offering its patrons superb conditions and PGA Tour quality
greens. The 6417 yard layout (back tees play 7000 yards) is ideally situated
on gently rolling terrain, with each hole separated from the next by heavy
forest.
Highlights from this weekend's play included an Ace on the par 3 third hole
by Surrey's David Carey and a pair of one under par 71's shot on Saturday by
11 year olds Jonnie Motomochi of Delta and Richard Lee of Vancouver. News of
Lee's practice round of 62 had even the customs officers at the border
talking.
Lee followed Saturday's 71 with a final round 73 for an even par 144 total
and the Boys 12 & Under title, and Motomochi finished in second three shots
back at 147.
West Vancouver's Kevin Spooner won his first Boys 13-14 Division title with
a 156 total over Adam Cornelson of Langley. Whistler's Danielle O'Reilly,
currently on the East Tennessee State University Golf Team, won the Girls
Division with a 168 total.
Jeremy Paradis of Surrey captured the Boys 15&16 Division title with scores
of 74,76 (150), winning by two strokes over Coquitlam golfers Josh Lunden
and Blake Rowe-Sleeman.
Abbotsford's Steven Dales was the overall top performer in the tournament
and the Boys 17&18 Division Champion with his scores of 72, 73 for a 145
total. Jon Burnham of Surrey won the Intermediate Division with a 158 total.
All Division Champions received Odyssey White Hot putters from Callaway
Golf.
Winners of the Sundog Eyewear Skills Competition were Jonnie Motomochi
(North Delta), Nick Renton (Vernon), Tyler Kilik (Coquitlam), Andrew Chapman
(White Rock), Dominique Pytlewski (North Vancouver) and Jonathan Burnham
(Surrey).
The next WCJGT event in B.C. is the Lindsay Kenney Junior at Belmont in
Langley, June 22-23. For more information please call the tour office at
