| |
The Boston
Pizza-presented Western Canada Junior Golf Tour hosted a full field of
75 players recently at Lacombe Golf Course in Lacombe, Alberta, July
25th and 26th. The players, who came from as far afield as Fort St.
John in B.C. and Shaunavon in Saskathewan, enjoyed near perfect
scoring conditions in hot weather on day one. This was followed by
lightning and thunder showers on day two, however, which forced early
suspension of play.
In the Boys 17-18 Division TJ Lubbers from Lacombe enjoyed his home
course advantage and won the event with the only under par score of
the event - a top knotch 69 which beat Mike Williams of Carstairs and
Graeme Bishop of Lethbridge by six shots.
Blair Yaworski of Calgary won the Boys 15-16 Division with a 77,
closely followed by Stefan Krepiakevich (Vancouver), Sean Connauton
(Edmonton), Tyler Miller (Lethbridge) and Stephan Sedor (Calgary).
In the Boys 12 & Under Division, Jace Barros from Edmonton was again
victorious on the WCJGT with a round of 76. Nicholas Morelli from Red
Deer gained his first runner-up spot with a round of 87.
Edmonton players continued to dominate in both the Boys 13-14 Division
and the Girls Division, where brother and sister duo Steven Her and
Susan Nam both won with rounds of 77 and 76 respectively. Will Porter
(Cranbrook) and Rylan James (Lethbridge) were runners-up in the Boys
13-14 Division, and Danielle Renner (Coaldale) placed second to Susan
Nam in the Girls Division.
Kyle Smart of Calgary won the Intermediate Division over Joe Mabley,
also of Calgary.
The next event WCJGT event is currently underway at Medicine Hat Golf
Course in Medicine Hat, AB, July 29-30, 2002. This will be closely
followed by the WCJGT Alberta PGA Junior Championship at Stony Plain
GC in Stony Plain on August 2-3, 2002. For more information please
